MHAC Meeting
Please join us this evening for our Mark Hopkins Accountability Meeting (MHAC) at 6:45pm in room 8.

Late Start
Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3rd is a late start day. School will begin at 10:36am. Chicken Nuggets will be the only lunch choice.

Class Pictures
Check your student’s backpack today for class picture order forms. Class picture day is Wednesday, February 10th. Individual spring pictures will be taken at the same time. Approximately 10 days later you will receive a proof picture along with package choices. This spring parents will have the option to choose from five different spring backgrounds with green screen technology. VanGogh recommends students wear bright solid colors. Please do not have your student wear green.

Streets of SouthGlenn
Help our school succeed by submitting receipts from any merchant or business located at the Streets of SouthGlenn Mall.  This is an ongoing event in which we collect receipts dated August 15, 2009 through April 30, 2010.  Every receipt Hopkins collects will count towards our first place goal.  The receipts must be the original copy and may be turned into the office at any time.  There is also a collections box located in the parking garage lobby which is marked with our school’s name.  Remember the library even counts as a business, so please help our school by supporting the local businesses at the Streets of SouthGlenn. For further information please contact Sonya Riebhoff at momriebhoff@yahoo.com.

Butter Braid Fundraiser
Our Butter Braid Fundraiser has finished. Get your order forms turned in as soon as possible. Butter Braids will be delivered approximately February 8, 2010.

Box Top Collection
The next Box Top Collection will be on Wednesday, February 17.  The class with the most (per grade level) will win a popcorn party.

Valentine's Day
We do not have any school-wide activities or parties planned for Valentine’s Day.  The PTO will be giving out cupcakes during lunch on Friday, February 12, which is also an early dismissal day.  Each class may have a classroom activity planned for that afternoon and you should expect to hear information from your classroom teacher soon.

Welcome incoming 6th grade families and welcome to middle school.
The middle school PTO's would like you to know that your time and support is very important to us.  There are many events that take place, some require a lot of support and some are a few hours here and there.  Below is the list of our LPS middle schools and their contact names.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Hopkins Elementary Attendance
Excessive tardiness and absences have a negative impact on a child’s education. Regular and consistent attendance is essential for students in order for them to receive the maximum benefit for their education and learning. Being late to school not only impacts your child’s learning but also the learning of his/her classmates as they enter the room late.

A minimum number of days being tardy can be expected during a school year; I would consider anything over 5 days tardy as excessive. If an unusual circumstance arises that could contribute to attendance issues, please let us know as soon as possible.

As a reminder, it is important to call the school attendance line on each day your child is absent from school to excuse the absence otherwise they will be marked as unexcused for the day. The phone number for the attendance line is 303-734-5555. Thank you for your cooperation.

Butter Braid Fundraiser
Our Butter Braid fundraiser is going on now through February 1. Get your orders in and help PTO have a successful fundraiser. Thank you for your continued support of PTO.  Butter Braids will be delivered approximately February 8, 2010.

Valentine’s Day
We do not have any school-wide activities or parties planned for Valentine’s Day.  The PTO will be giving out cupcakes during lunch on Friday, February 12, which is also an early dismissal day.  Each class may have a classroom activity planned for that afternoon and you should expect to hear information from your classroom teacher soon.

Clothing Donations
Mrs. Hester, Physical Education teacher, is collecting clothing for the Sheridan School District Clothing Bank. Her daughter, Cally, teaches kindergarten at Alice Terry elementary in Sheridan. When Mrs. Hester found out that her daughter’s class had students in it that did not have shoes, jackets, socks or clean pants to wear she decided that she would ask her friends for help. Mrs. Hester collects clothing from infant sizes all the way up to adult. She delivers the clothing to the clothing bank and works at the bank the first Saturday of every month. The clothing bank is open 3 days a week for homeless families to go to and get warm clothing for their children and themselves. If you would like to donate any gently used clothing to this project you can bring in your donations anytime and leave them in the gym. Mrs. Hester will leave tax donation forms in her box in the office. Thanks so much. Mrs. Hester

LPS Child Find
Littleton Public School’s Child Find Team offers FREE screenings for children, birth to 5 years of age who are at risk for delays in development. The team consists of an occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist and a school psychologist. The screening provides general information about a child’s current speech/language, motor, social, and pre-academic skills. It takes approximately one hour. Screenings are not an assessment for kindergarten readiness.

Following the screening parents will receive feedback from the Child Find Team. If screening results indicate possible delays in development, the Child Find team will recommend further assessment. Screenings are held four times each month during the school year and less frequently during the summer. Parents who have concerns about their child’s development should call 303-347-6980 for an appointment.

Screenings are held at
The Village
1907 W. Powers Ave.
Littleton, CO 80120

Elementary Parent Meeting with Middle School Principals
Are you curious about middle school -- anxious, excited, or even dreading it? Have no fear – we are here to help! Join our four middle school principals at a special evening for elementary school parents. Gary Hein (Euclid), Kathleen Ambron (Goddard), James O’Tremba (Newton), and Steve Wolf (Powell) will come together for one evening to introduce the middle school concept and help parents understand this bridge to high school.  We are proud of our wonderful middle school program and look forward to sharing our thoughts about middle school with you.  We welcome your questions and hope you will join us for a relaxed and interactive evening.
